Daniel Abraham, PhD (ABD) serves as Department Chair of Performing Arts and Professor of Music at American University. Known for his inspiring leadership and organizational skills, he has served as Department Chair on three occasions (2020-Present, 2014-2017, and 2009-2011) and has also served as AU’s Director of Choral Activities for over two decades. After completing his MM in Historical Musicology & Conducting at the University of Maryland (where is also ABD for his PhD in Musicology), he has since served as State President of the American Choral Director’s Association, Secretary-Treasurer for the American Musicological Society’s Capitol Chapter, and Chair of Research & Publications for the American Choral Director’s Association. Daniel’s research into baroque and classical period music (17th and 18th centuries), issues in performance practice, and choral music pedagogy has resulted in grants and sponsorships from organizations including the Maryland State Arts Council, the Dimick Foundation, Lockheed-Martin, and Ernst and Young. In addition to being a talented educator and researcher, he has received numerous WAMMIE nominations for Best Classical Conductor/Director and Best Classical Chamber Ensemble.
